Enterprise CV-6 Build Progress

  • A lot of PE to be done!

  • Hull Complete - Note connecting wires for hanger deck LED lighting

  • Bow - A lot of detail under the grid structure

  • Stern....

  • Next is building the hanger deck

  • Bow section hanger deck completed

  • Building one of 4 sections of the girders making up the hanger deck overhead and flight deck support

  • Stern section - Hanger deck completed

    Next will add ladders and other details on the hanger deck bulkheads and then build the aircraft to place inside.

  • Testing the lighting wiring. All good!

  • Building the aircraft for the hanger deck. Tedious work.... Plan to put 5 each of F4F Wildcats, TBD Devastators, SBD Dauntless. That will leave 30 more for the flight deck (kit only had 15 I purchased 30 more).

  • F4F Wildcats almost finished.

  • Adding aircraft in the hanger deck

  • Wiring connections finished. Tape is easy way to secure small wires.

  • Adding ship’s boats finishes hull work before adding flight deck

  • Two piece flight deck down after making fit adjustments. Note high tech weight system. Next phase is wooden deck overlay.

  • Adding scale wooden deck adds much more realism to the simple etched plastic deck. Wooden planks and metal grids as well as arresting cables can be shown.

  • A lot of work to cut out each section and then add PE. Worth it!

  • Wooden deck down. After painting all the PE, next airbrush the entire deck to blend everything in.

  • Adding guns and flight deck details

  • PE to make flight deck crane

  • Last set of railings around entire flight deck

  • PE for range directors and search radars

  • Island completed

  • Next: Rigging on the island. Then installing on deck and painting touchups. Finally building all the aircraft for the flight deck.

  • Rigging completed. I used AK thin elastic rigging thread. I do basic rigging for my warship models, enough to give the effect but not so much as it becomes tedious and frustrating! The model having a stand alone island makes rigging so much easier, mount it with Loctite putty on a turntable and it takes much less time.

  • Finished building the SBD, TBD and F4-F squadrons (24 total) for the flight deck.

  • Squadrons all spotted. Build complete!
