USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG-54) is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer. She was commissioned in Long Beach, California, on 19 March 1994. The Arleigh Burke class of guided-missile destroyers (DDGs) is entered on the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multifunction radar. The class was developed as a more affordable supplement to the Ticonderoga-class cruisers. As of April 2026, 75 ships are active, with 24 more planned to enter service, making it the most numerous class of warships in the U.S. Navy.
The model is from the I Love It (Trumpeter) 1:200 scale kit. This is my first 1:200 scale ship build and provides the opportunity (with a lot of time and patience) to include much more detail. There were 1,300 actual parts in the kit including a full set of PE. (Please see the DDG-54 Build photos in the Model Build Section)
